WASHINGTON, 9th January, 2026 (WAM) — The number of Americans filing new claims for unemployment benefits rose slightly last week, suggesting that layoffs remained relatively low at the end of 2025, even as job opportunities continue to be limited.
The US Department of Labor reported Thursday that initial claims for state unemployment benefits increased by 8,000 to a seasonally adjusted 208,000 for the week ending December 27.
