US job growth exceeds expectations in March, adding 178,000 jobs

WASHINGTON, 4th April, 2026 (WAM) — The United States’ job growth blew past expectations last month, a resilient rebound that defied concerns about a pending downturn.

The US added 178,000 jobs in March, the Labour Department said Friday, the best month for job growth in more than a year.

The unemployment rate dipped to 4.3% in March, down from 4.4% in the prior month.
